Type Locality and Naming

Northernmost Taiwan. Upper formation of Teliu Gr. The type section is located at near Shanzijiao Village, to west of Sanxia Town, Taibei County, Taiwan Province. It was named by Ishikawa Y. in 1930 and re-surveyed by Lin C. in 1960.

Synonym: Taliao Fm, Tiaryo Fm


Lithology and Thickness

It is characterized by the interbeds of dark gray thick bulk sandstone and grayish black shale, and calcium sandstone with fossils. Foraminifera and Calcareous nannofossils are abundant. The thickness is 300-550 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It is conformable in contact to the underlying Mushan Fm.

Upper contact

It is conformable in contact to the overlying Shidi Fm.

Regional extent

The formation is distributed in area around Taibe County, northern Taiwan.

Triquetrorhabdulus carinatus, Helicosphaera cartteri, Discoaster druggi, Sphenolithus dissimilis, Globigerina ciperoensis, Globigerinoides prilinordius, Globorotalia siakensis, Gaudryina pseudohayasakai, Miogypsinoides formosensis.
